nice game.

Sep-23-13  shivasuri4: White resigned as 40.Kg1 Qh7 is crushing.
Sep-23-13  shivasuri4: And 40.Ke1 loses to Qf3, when the threat of Qh1# is overwhelming.
Sep-23-13  Paradiznik: Shivasuri4 is completely false.

If 40. Ke1 then Qd2+ 41. Kf1 Qf2#

If 40. Kg1 then also Qd2 and there is no stopping mate Qg2# or even Qf2#, even desperado Qh8+ doesn't work. In case of white's Qh8+ simply Rxh8 and one move later coming back to Rh7, again threatening mate on g2 or f2.

Honza Cervenka: <shivasuri4: White resigned as 40.Kg1 Qh7 is crushing.> I guess that 40.Kg1 Qd2 is a better reason to resign. After 40...Qh7 41.Qc7 I see no quick mate and the game goes on.

scutigera: Interesting treatment of the opening here: Black plays a Sicilian, but upon seeing that White wants to play an Alapin Sicilian, decides to play a French instead. Upon research, I found that Kushnir had won another nice game with this very line the previous year from Jeremy Silman: Silman vs A Kushnir, 1975

ajk68: White can't figure out what to do with the knights.
Sep-23-13  shivasuri4: Thanks, <Honza Cervenka>. That was poor analysis on my part.

<Paradiznik: Shivasuri4 is completely false.> Amusing. 40.Ke1 Qd2+ is obviously faster, but 40...Qf3 wins easily too, delaying the mate by merely two moves.

Sep-23-13  The Last Straw: I was shocked when I found out when the player playing black died.
