Sep-18-11  AGOJ: Nice shot. 26. White to play can be puzzle of the day here. 28. as well.

The manouver to trade dark squared bishops with 16. Bh4 in the modern Benoni, I never saw this one before. Your invention?

  perfidious: <AGOJ> While I may have played it, let theory be the judge; I won't claim credit for originating the move, though I discovered a later game with 13.Bd2: Alexis Kozal-Christophe Philippe, French ch qualifier, Val d'Isere 2004, concluded 13....a6 14.Be1 Rb8 15.Rb1 b5 16.axb5 axb5 17.b4 axb4 18.Rxb4 Nc5 19.e5 dxe5 20.fxe5 Nxd5 21.Rd4 Nxc3 22.Bxc3 Qc7 23.Ng5 Ne6 24.Nxh7 Qxc3 25.Rh4 Qxe5 26.Nxf8 Nxf8 27.Qf3 Be6 28.Rb4 Qc5+ (0-1)
May-10-18  morfishine: morfishine: Hi <perfidious> I finally figured out the correct move order. In your "discovered" game, the move is 17...cxb4 not 17...axb4

Nice posting and very nice game!

best always, morf

May-10-18  ChessHigherCat: Hi <Perfidious>, I know you're not crazy about computer analyses and I don't blame you, but did you know you had mate in 12 if black plays RxN?:

perfidious: <CHC>, had no idea; just recall working out that the line played in the game led to final victree.

Long strings of computer analyses, uncritically posted as gospel, are what leave me cold.

May-11-18  ChessHigherCat: Great game anyway, congratulations.

I know what you mean about the compu-spammers, that's one of the advantages of the ignore button.

perfidious: <zed>, wish I could lay hands on some of the other brawls Chris and I had, which were at least as interesting as this clash.
Nov-11-21  Z truth 000000001: <perf> check out CL (Dec 1985) p27 for mention of a familiar hangout of the two of you.

Though it was sadly recently renovated out of existence. Another even more recent casualty -

No more cafe, or skywalk between buildings.

(Who reads books anymore, or plays chess with actual pieces?)

perfidious: <zed>, actually two spots from my chequered past were featured, though at the time, I only went to Framingham to attend weekend events for the most part.

Sad to see these places going into the shades, though, it appears, an inevitable part of progress.
