Aug-05-11  hellopolgar: Yifan is 4/4 in FIDE Women's Grand Prix (2011) after this game.
Aug-05-11  DrMAL: Yes, Hou showed that the Marshall Attack still has merit today, in part because of her opponent's inaccurate moves.

For example, after 30.Bxd5 the accurate response is first to take 30...Bxf1 to keep the knight from posting strongly on e3 (possibly later stronger still on e5). While bishops in general are stronger than knights, not in this position with so many pawns and the structures involved.

But then Hou allowed the trade anyway with 32.Ng2 (instead of 32.Ke1) and went on to make inaccuracy 34.Qe5 (instead of 34.Qe6) allowing pawn swap (34...h3+ 35.Kxh3 Qxf3+) for a very likely draw (e.g., 36.Qg3 Qf5+ 37.Kg2 Qb1 38.Qf3+ Ke7 39.Qe2+ Kd7 40.a3 ).

Black played inaccurate 34...Qd2+ right away instead, with white keeping similar advantage as before move 34. Then black's plan to move her king the wrong way 36...Ke8 (instead of 36...Kg8) started her demise. Very nice game!

HeMateMe: Has this opening actually been analyzed to the 30th move? Frank Marshall would have been pleased his opening has hung around so long.

But, he'd be happier if people found some other gambit openings, one's not quite so played out--in the spirit of a gambiteer.

  wordfunph: <HMM> Muzychuk admitted.. :(

<However her home analysis ended at move fifteen, as she confessed, and she missed a good drawing chance two moves later.>

HeMateMe: Thanks, but I was referring to the note above by Dr. Mal (Doctor Bad, en espanol?) He seems to think that the Marshall gambit has been played out to the 30th move.
Aug-07-11  DrMAL: <wordfunph> Have no idea what troller <HMM> wrote, it was probably rude and devoid of anything useful.

In any event, thanx for pointing that out, I did not look carefully at this part of the game. The Marshall Attack has not been winning much lately at very high levels, so I thought it was interesting it ended up winning. Makes sense she could have drawn earlier around the opening.

Looking at that article, apparently she did not analyze the "technical win." If she played correctly on move 30 it was a "technical draw" LOL, cheers.

Aug-09-11  kia0708: Although Hou is only 2.500+ player she outplays her opponents so easily.

I don't know how to explain it.
