Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-16-12  Marmot PFL: This looks like it deserves a spot among Horowitz's notable games, with it's double piece sac 14...Bg4 and 16...Nf4! White tries to defend by returning material yet the black attack lasts right to the ending.
Apr-16-12  RookFile: This is one of those Tal like games where it doesn't really matter whether black's play was completely sound. Going into the game, Horowitz knew that if he played a nice positional game he was going to get crushed. So he mixed it up tactically and got rewarded. Horowitz had some great combinations in his career and could certainly calculate.
Apr-16-12  RookFile: By way of contrast, this game shows the wrong way to play against Kashdan:

Kashdan vs I A Horowitz, 1931

Apr-16-12  Marmot PFL: <RookFile> I always hated playing black against players like that, who could keep a small edge for hours while waiting for a mistake.
Dec-17-12  ForeverYoung: One of Horowitz's best games! All out blitzkrieg from the start!

Jonathan Sarfati: This was one of Horowitz' own favorite games.
Aug-14-14  jerseybob: 15.Ne2!? or 15.f3!?
Sep-08-20  newzild: Wow. Fun game!
Sep-08-20  Brenin: Declining the sacrifice with 15 Qb1 would have kept White's K-side defences intact and given counterplay with 16 b4. After 15 hxg4, Black's pawn roller was a majority backed up by several pieces, whereas White's was equality, backed by a lone rook. It was always clear which was going to be the most effective.
Sep-08-20  Ironmanth: Nice old game here! Thanks chessgames. Horowitz basically taught me chess with some of his legendary books. Y'all stay safe out there, people!

Sep-08-20  RandomVisitor: Where did white go wrong?

Perhaps white should have contested the center sooner instead of blocking it up, such as at move 6:

Breunor: Where did white go wrong? 12 Ng1 was a big issue. Stockfish recommender h4, which is about -.5. After Ng1 puts it at -1.5.
