SteinitzLives: Nerves of steel to play the Smith-Morra against a much higher rated opponent. The thematic 16. Nxd5 knight sac is what white has to do to win, and it works big time!
Oct-03-11  transpo: A 2400 player totally misplayed this opening from the Black side. First Black is behind 1 maybe 2 tempi in development. Instead of developing his pieces he makes 4 pawn moves in a row (4...e6, 5...d6, 6...a6 and 7...b5) He probably vaguely remembered the Chicago Defense, but completely misplayed it in the wrong position. A much better response after 4.Nxc3 is 4...Nc6 5.Nf3 d6 6.Bc4 a6 7.0-0 Nf6 and Black is sufficiently developed to parry any early attacks, especially because of 6...a6 which denies White the all important b5 square which is the focal point of many early tactical combinations.
