Dec-10-11 | | MindCtrol9: Adams did not have a consistent plan.He missed some good moves.I think he had to create some preasure with the pass pawn, and when he had <Rb4> which did not play.Carlsen was thinking about this exchange sacrifice winning the game. There was another sacrifice before if Adams did not play the right move at that moment. |

Dec-10-11 | | talisman: <sbevan> thanks but i think we all saw it. |
|
Dec-10-11 | | Marmot PFL: McShane and Kramnik also winning, so Naka probably won't see 1st place again |
|
Dec-10-11 | | MindCtrol9: <What a mistake> |
|
Dec-10-11 | | Marmot PFL: Howell resigned with 2 queens which you don't see often. |
|
Dec-10-11 | | Marmot PFL: I play Nimzo and don't mind B+N vs 2B, or N vs B, but 2N vs 2B I usually avoid. |
|
Dec-10-11 | | Ulhumbrus: After 30...f5?! 31 Bf3 following the manoeuvre Qb1-d3-f1 Nakamura pointed out in the commentary box - as Carlsen found - the pair of moves Qf1-g2!! and Bh5+ |

Dec-10-11 | | Ulhumbrus: Kramnik and Howell are in the commentary box: http://www.livestream.com/LondonChe... |

Dec-10-11
 | | Peligroso Patzer: <waustad: McShane [h]as the tie breaks in spades. 3 wins as black!> Here are the complete tie-break rules for this event: 5. Final Ranking and Tie Break Rules
The final ranking of the competition is decided by the highest number of points scored. If the number of points scored by two or more players is equal, tie break rules will be applied in the following order but only to determine the final ranking. In the event of ties, all prize money will be shared. 1. Number of games won.
2. Number of games won with Black.
3. Result of the game(s) between the tied players.
If there is a tie for first place and it cannot be broken by the above, the destination of the winner’s trophy will be reached in over the board play. The tie break for the trophy will consist of one or more Armageddon games, 6 minutes + 2 seconds per move for White, versus 5 minutes + 2 seconds per move for Black, with draw odds for Black. Dec-10-11 | | Ulhumbrus: 35...Nc4?? looks like a blunder. On 36 Rxd5! exd5 37 Bxd5+ picks up a second knight on c4 for the rook. |

 | | moronovich: Nc4 smells like a blunder,looks like a blunder,tastes like a blunder.
(Sorry, Bob;)
It IS a blunder. |

Dec-10-11 | | lost in space: 35. Nc4?? does not only look like a blunder, it is a blunder. LHM, Adams with the 4th lost in a row. |

 | | Peligroso Patzer: <Marmot PFL: Howell resigned with 2 queens which you don't see often.> ... and apparently without noticing a promising opportunity to sacrifice one of them with <40. ... Qf1+>. See the suggestion of <Dieago> (and subsequent comments) at Kramnik vs D Howell, 2011. Howell instead resigned on his 40th turn. Note that (in Kramnik vs. Howell, as linked, supra) after <40. ... Qf1+ 41. Kxf1 Qa6+ 42. Kg2> black now must take with the rook (<42. ... Rxc8>). |

Dec-10-11
 | | Penguincw: Hmm. They still have the same live game on. |
|
Dec-10-11 | | Shams: <Penguincw> Carlsen is still dancing. It would be rude to cut away. |

 | | Penguincw: < Shams: <Penguincw> Carlsen is still dancing. It would be rude to cut away. > Don't think Carlsen is still dancing. Plus, I think he had his chance in Round 1. |

 | | whiteshark: A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. |
|
Dec-10-11 | | 310metaltrader: Is there a quick mate after the alternate line of rxd5, pxd5 bx with check, or is it there are really no good moves for black and it is just a matter of time and technique/ |
|
Dec-11-11 | | ounos: This game should be remembered for the remarkable queen dance in the middle of it. Very unique |
|
Dec-11-11 | | jmboutiere: I also think Magnus has the most skilled queen "dance" compared to other top players. However,at hte press conference, he expressed his regrets of not finding better moves than those with the queen which were, after his opinion, unspectacular. |
|
Dec-11-11 | | King Death: While watching this game up to Carlsen's 29th move before breaking away, I thought Black was equal in the opening and most of the middlegame. Could 30...f5 have been the start of trouble for Adams? |
|
Dec-11-11
 | | HeMateMe: I think the ChessDom commentator said that black needed to play c5 earlier, for equality. When c5 was actually played, Carlsen had the advantage. |
