In the fifth round Wallace scored his first win against Jonas, who had not lost a game. The latter compromised his game by opening badly, and never recovered lost ground.>

Starting badly, Black gets no attack for the P.>

<(b) 11...Kt takes P <11...Nxd5>

Black regains the P but his position is inferior.>

<(c) 14...P to Kt 4 <14...b5>

Although this weakens the side Pawns it enables the QR to come into play.>

<(d) 17.P to R 5 <17.h5>

White has now a winning game.>
