Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-14-12  Jacob Arnold: 10. e5 simply demolishes Caruana....
Oct-15-12  Michael1234567891011: what an opening disaster from Caruana...
Oct-15-12  Eyal: It's usually not such a good idea to play hedgehog-type systems in blitz, since Black has to be constantly on the lookout from this kind of tactical blows. 9.Rd1 prepares e5, since after Bxg2 the white rook is not under attack, but Caruana completely missed it. 11...Bb7 12.Nxe6! is also a disaster, and 11...Bd5 doesn't help because of 12.c4; after 12.Qh5, 12...Bf5 loses to 13.Nxf5 exf5 14.Qe2+ and 14...Ne5 would lose a piece to f4.

An Englishman: Good Evening: According to the Guardian (UK) online, 16.Qg2 was more artistic; 17.Nxe5 is a surprisingly hard threat to meet.

  FSR: Carlsen really smoked Caruana.
Nov-19-13  PhilFeeley: Such straightforward play by white! Why can't we all play like that?!
Nov-19-13  john barleycorn: <Why can't we all play like that?!> Because we can't.
Feb-06-15  Whitehat1963: What the heck is the finish?

  whiteshark: C'mon <Whitehat1963> it's a blitz game and black is a piece down. If ♘e5 moves black gonna lose ♙d6, o'wise ♗xe5

whiteshark: Furthermore I'd guess that Caruana was much lower on time --> check this game-related video
Mar-09-16  Nova: This definitely needs to be a POTD - a sharp tactic that most White players would overlook!

PawnSac: 9...a6 was definitely too slow. Black wanted to play ..Qc7 but was uncomfortable with 10.Nb5 .. My first thought was that ..Qb8 strengthens e5 and guards the Bb7 so is definitely a candidate move, but why not Qc7 anyway.. if Nb5 Qc6 and after, kick the knight back out with a6 and if Nd4 back to Qc7 again, then continue with Kside development.

PawnSac: but i agree with <Eyal> .. i would never play the hedgehog against Carlsen without having done a lot of theoretical work and have prepared stuff, like Shak does when he plays offbeat lines.
