Jun-11-13 | | paavoh: Nice pun from the game motif (Nxe5, Bxd1). Well done whoever it was. |
Jun-11-13 | | NewLine: 12...Bxc2 and black wins. |
Jun-11-13 | | erimiro1: Looks like poor NN - as always - doesn't find the best defense. The combination looks suspicious to me. What about 17.-Qg5 ? |
Jun-11-13 | | Stone Monkey: NewLine, how so? |
Jun-11-13 | | morfishine: <10...dxe5> looks better for Black *I just checked the history of Gunsberg and wow, he gave Steinitz quite a battle in the 1890/91 title match winning 4 games to the champs 6: Steinitz-Gunsberg World Championship Match (1890) |
Jun-11-13 | | Abdel Irada: Gunberg's combination is highly speculative and should lose against best defense. Nonetheless, it is entertaining. ∞ |

Jun-11-13 | | gofer: <morfishine: <10...dxe5> looks better for Black> Totally agree. White is dead meat. I can't see anything for white after <10 ... dxe5>. |
Jun-11-13 | | jrpg: As morfishine says, 10...dxe5 looks good for black. If 11.Nd5+ Qxd5 12.Bxd5 Kxf6 and Black is a rook up and in a comfortable position. |

 | | Honza Cervenka: It is hard to believe it but after 13.Bd2 black is lost despite of his extra queen and exchange. Of course, 12...Bxc2, which cuts white's mating net was necessary. On the other hand 17.c3 was more precise as after 17.g3 Rh7 18.gxh4 Rxf7 19.Rxf7 cxd5 20.exd5 Kxd5 21.Rxb7 white is still winning but black avoids the immediate mate and can prolong the resistance. |

Jun-11-13 | | Michael1234567891011: After 12...Bxc2! black is winning. |

 | | thegoodanarchist: <<Abdel Irada>: Gunberg's combination is highly speculative and should lose against best defense. Nonetheless, it is entertaining.> Reminds me of a quote from Tal, which I shall paraphrase: Months of analysis and minutes over the board are not quite the same. |
Jun-11-13 | | onigorom: 10....dxe5 11. Nd5+ Kd7 and White is lost. |
Jun-11-13 | | zb2cr: "<Abdel Irada>: Gunberg's combination is highly speculative and should lose against best defense. Nonetheless, it is entertaining." Right. Gunsberg counted on Black's greed, since 10. ... Kxf6 looks like it wins a Rook as well as the Queen that Black is already up by. Of course, 10. ... gxf6??; 11. Nd5#. |

Jun-11-13 | | RookFile: Basically, this is a Mikhail Tal game before Tal was born. |
