  HeMateMe: Pretty sexy final mating pattern. Seems like black should be able to draw this position, from the middle game. His pawn moves let white get better control of the board, on the queenside. 4-3 pawn ending should be a draw, too.

  LucB: Hmmm... I don't see the win for white..

I see:

60.e8=Q+ Kh7

and then what?

Premium Chessgames Member
  HeMateMe: Surely you're kidding? 61.g6+...K-h6 62.Q-h8##.

  LucB: <HMM> well, duh!.. :S

That's embarrassing!.. I never considered the queen going to h8!

I was thinking 61.g6+ Kh6 and then with the king stuck there I was trying to get the Queen on the c1-h6 diagonal! ... *sigh*!

I'll attribute this to the heat in my area! Yeaahh, that's it, the heat..

  LucB: You know, even Kramnik and Chucky have been known to miss a mate in 1, so I'm in good company!

  HeMateMe: I think perhaps you are a strong player, but are testing us...
Premium Chessgames Member
  LucB: Definitely NOT a strong player!.. I'm perhaps stronger than 1400 (per my bio), but I get stumped by Wed./Thurs. puzzles..

By the way I believe you are from NY, correct? It's one of my favourite cities to visit. I've been to Manhattan about a half-dozen times.

Other interesting tidbit: Alain Vigneault, the Rangers' coach, is from my hometown of Gatineau, Qu├ębec. I went to the same high school as he did.

  HeMateMe: New York is a horrible place for a visitor to find affordable digs. Where do you stay, if it's not too prying?
