  fredthebear: An alternative line if the Black king had stayed kingside has a similar diagonal cut-off from the 6th rank:

  FSR: If one doesn't want to venture 5...Nxe4, 5...Nb4 and 5...Be7 are reliable responses to the Belgrade Gambit.

Black lost quickly after 14....Kc8. As the notes <perfidious> linked to observe, by one John Rather, if 14....Re8 15.Qxe8+ is a forced mate. But Black would have been fine after 14....a6.

Earlier Rather points out that 9.c3 was stronger than Curdo's move, maintaining White's advantage.

Probably why Curdo left this game out of his book.
