Penguincw: 14.Nxe4 was a potential knight sacrifice. If 14...fxe4, then 15.Qxe4 c6 16.Qg6+ and things could get interesting, considering how underdeveloped both sides are.
Sep-15-14  Ulhumbrus: The piece sacrifice prepared by 13 e4 would be brilliant if it were to work but unfortunately for White Black can decline it and Aronian does decline it. The computer evaluations suggest that the pawn sacrifice 25...g3+? instead of 25...Rxf4+ lets slip Black's advantage, and that moreover this is not the only point at which Aronian makes a wrong choice and lets his advantage slip. A Spanish interviewer suggested that Aronian was suffering from jet lag, having flown over from America shortly before the start of the tournament and Aronian replied that there was something in what he said.

I wondered about that when playing through the game. ..Rxf4+ and doubling with ..Rhf8 then ..h4 seems to solidify blacks advantage. Yes, the way Aronian played it does eliminate the two white Kside pawns and leave him an outside passer, but i much prefer a G rather than H passer.

PawnSac: as for the jet lag, that can be kind of rough. From St Louis to Bilbao would probably connect through Atlanta or NY/ JFK but even if he got a straight through flight its still almost 9 hours. Sheer drudgery. It messes with your body.
