Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-15-14  JosepCmd: Match between two weak plays(not players), weaker has lost. Despite the white's clear advantage, the game was going to draw, until Ponomariov's blunders, because of Aronian's weak play. I don't know what is his problem but, Aronian's form is going under and under since Candidates Tournament.
Sep-15-14  mrbasso: I saw much weaker games from Aronian. This one looks quite decent.
Sep-15-14  notyetagm: Aronian vs Ponomariov, 2014

Textbook example of <OPPOSITES ATTACK>, as LarryC of ICC fame calls <OPPOSITE COLORED BISHOPS ATTACKS>.

Aronian has a light-squared bishop. Ponomariov has a dark-squared bishop. Aronian attacks the Black king on the light squares. Ponomariov does not attack the White king on the dark squares. Aronian wins.

Sometimes chess is a very simple game to understand.

Sep-15-14  Ulhumbrus: As 14...b5 gives Aronian the superior pawn formation after 15 ab cb . On the other hand if Black tries to prepare the advance ...b5 by 14...a6 White can fix the b pawn by 15 a5. this suggests preparing the advance ...b5 by 14...b6 and 15...a6
Sep-15-14  JosepCmd: @mrbasso: You're absolutely right but, eight months ago(Tata Steel, ZCC), he could go to victory from 0,9-1,00 evaluations. But now, he can't win without opposition player's blunders. His form changed black from white. So weird.
Sep-15-14  mrbasso: Evaluation is just a number. Sometimes a forced win is there, sometimes it's just a draw.
Sep-18-14  rickycota: A lot of guys saying is simple chess criticizing. Then why none of you is up there? Time also plays, you're in home relaxed analyzing the game, it's easy now and more if you have an engine. Everyone who has played chess in a tournament knows what time pressure means, so chill out they're the best in the world. It's not easy to make all the right moves.
