Jan-31-16  JoeBerylwood: Computers are ruining elite chess and this game is a case example... No way these players found these idea over the board.
Jan-31-16  ndg2: It's certainly a lot of home prep. There was home prep before the age of computers, though. Not sure why computers "ruin everything".
Jan-31-16  Marmot PFL: Nakamura playing stuff he knows from memory, so that winning or not he finishes fast.

of course not all of them! These positions are well known, and Ragger has played the Taimanov variation for many years and is quite familiar with the positions that result, as also is Naka, since the Kings Indian is one of his favorite black defenses. The link below has two games (one by Ragger) that follows this game for the first 20 moves.

plang: Opening theory that goes 20 moves deep existed before computers - either way there is still plenty of play in these positions
Feb-02-16  waustad: They blitzed to after move 20 then both, but particularlt Ragger slowed down.
Feb-02-16  JoeBerylwood: They were in prep until move 30 at least. Bring on the Fischer Random I say!
Feb-05-16  mrandersson: The amount of cash these guys will have its most likely they both have really strong pc. Running for ages soaking all the info going over ideas themes lines.

You only really need two engines these days Komodo & Stockfish to get super ideas from stuff. They work well together them engines i sometimes throw chiron2 in there as well for a 3rd eye.
