Jul-21-16 | | SirRuthless: Wonderful result for Wesley. I wonder if the idea that Giri makes too many draws has infiltrated his mind and altered his style. |

Jul-21-16 | | Eduardo Leon: I expected white to simplify the position into a won pawn endgame, but instead he sacrificed his b pawn for a pretty mating net. :-) |

Jul-21-16 | | Sally Simpson: Hi Cro,
"After the first wedding anniversary things have gone badly for Giri." Tell me about it. Our 40th anniversary is next year. Things went down hill for us on our honeymoon. We got married on a Thursday, I played in a tournament that weekend. That was 39 years ago, she still goes on about it. |

 | | AylerKupp: <chancho> If Carlsen loses in the next two rounds to Giri and So, while So beats Wei and Carlsen, that would be a huge comeback and a huge collapse for Magnus. What would you say the chances are that, with a +1 lead, Carlsen will lose the next 2 games? |

About being oversexed and underprepared at the board? |

 | | AylerKupp: <<Sally Simpson> Things went down hill for us on our honeymoon. We got married on a Thursday, I played in a tournament that weekend.> That explains a lot about you. :-)
One story about my wife and me. Many years ago we were at a party and someone asked us how long we'd been married. I replied "Eight years of wedded bliss." Well, I had miscounted. My wife poked me in the side and said "We've been married nine years!" Then, in my quickest recovery ever, I said "I know we've been married nine years, but eight of wedded bliss." That elicited a smile and on each anniversary (45th is coming up) she says: "Well, our ratio is still getting better." Save that line just in case you need it some day. And congratulations on your 40th anniversary in advance. |

Jul-21-16 | | Conrad93: Wesley So is Anish Giri's kryptonite. |
|
Jul-21-16 | | Sally Simpson: Hi John,
"About being oversexed and underprepared at the board?" No being undersexed and overprepared at the board.
(Spent 3 days looking at 1.d4 defences and everyone played 1.e4) ---
Wes Done Well, Well Done Wes. |

Seeing things that aren't or not seeing things that are in the position.> Yeah, his wife said he was improvising a lot. Anyway, Wesley Pabebe vs Anish Bapepe can be charged to the hormons. |

 | | tpstar: In the final position, White has the dual mate threats of 58. Rg7# and 58. Nh4#. 57 ... h4 is forced, then 58. Kg4 again threatens 59. Rg7#, so 58 ... Rh7 is forced (58 ... Rg8? 59. Nxh4#). Now White can win the exchange with 59. Nxh4+ Rxh4+ 60. Kxh4 and grind it out, but quicker is 59. Re6+ Kf7 60. g6+! Kxe6 61. gxh7: click for larger viewAnd anyone here can win this. =) |
|
Jul-24-16 | | iking: at move 49... Rb8 ... i could believe that after move 7 thereafter, white is threatening mate on black ...57. Kf4! |
|
Aug-02-16 | | sho16: <Eduardo Leon> Thanks for the clarification! |
