Aug-06-16 | | Marmot PFL: Anyway Vishy and Veselin showed they can still compete with the youngsters. |
Aug-06-16 | | UNQ4797: congrats vishy sir........u r my hero. |

 | | Domdaniel: Nice to see 0-1 in a Caro-Kann. |
Aug-06-16 | | 1971: 41...Ra6! tightens the screws. Either go passive or into a forced loss endgame... I love you Vishy! |

 | | andrewjsacks: 30. Nxe6?? is the story here. Longtime tactical wizard Anand outdoes a notable young lion. Remember what old Steinitz said... |
Aug-06-16 | | CountryGirl: Nice unravelling and tactical shot by Vishy. And I liked that 34...Bc5 interception, too. |
Aug-06-16
 | | keypusher: What an original game! I've never seen 3....Nf6 before. |
Aug-06-16 | | Atking: I'm afraid MVL is playing to much these times but Anand' victory is really remarkable. Without cigars and all smoke around Anand is our Lasker, high technical level clever opening approach (Here i suspect MVL was waiting for a Berlin defence) and interest in other academic topics like Astronomy. Maxime is young thus I hope he will recover soon but Sinquefield Cup is of average of Candidates, one has to be totally fresh. |

 | | HeMateMe: that opening looked butt-ugly for black, but it held together. Good prep by vishy. It's difficult for black's bishop to angle around and stop the rook pawn--should white play on a bit? |
Aug-07-16 | | activechess55: What if instead of 16 a4, white plays 16 rb1 and then be3. This is to meets black's c5 with white's d5. d5 centre break can give white an edge. |

 | | perfidious: <keypusher> The position in the opening reminds one of something reached in your favourite Alekhine's after 1.e4 Nf6 2.Nc3 d5 3.e5 Ne4 4.Nce2, except that no-one plays 4....c6, when this game can be obtained by transposition with 5.Nf3, an idea which seems perhaps a bit dodgy and hardly thematic. |

Aug-07-16 | | kamagong24: very vell misplayed game by mvl |

 | | Eyal: Anand's opening play was terrible and his position was on the verge of collapse – the fact that MVL blundered with 30.Nxe6??, missing the nice intermediate shot 31…e3!, doesn't change that retroactively. As Robert Hess notes in his analysis of the game on chess.com, MVL may have missed his best attacking chances on moves 17-18 with f5! (before Anand played it himself, stabilizing the position somewhat). E.g., 17. f5 cxd4 (17... exf5? 18. a5 Qd6 19. Ne2 Kc8 20. Bf4 Qe7 21. O-O and Black’s position in shambles) 18. fxe6 Bxe6 19. Bxe6 Qxe6 20. Ne2 and Black's king will never find safety. For example, the attack rages on after 20... dxc3 21. Bf4+ Kc8 (21... Bd6 22. Nd4 wins material with Nb5+ coming) 22. Nxc3. In the game itself, MVL was apparently rattled by missing the 25…Qe7 resource, thinking that he should be winning with the forcing sequence leading to 25.b4. At any rate, instead of 30.Nxe6??, 30.Bxd5 exd5 31.Qh3 with the idea of transferring the queen to e3 and putting pressure along the g1-a7 diagonal still looks quite good for White. Aug-07-16 | | activechess55: MVL'd advantage with imaginative and resourceful play in the opening. But he lets opportunity slip later. Good defense by Vishy. |
Aug-07-16 | | lentil: When I was "learning" chess, the Caro Kann was considered to be a dull, drawish opening... |
Aug-07-16 | | LeyenChess: OMG, Vishy is on fire guys! |
Aug-07-16 | | Ulhumbrus: Vachier-Lagrave loses a great deal of time in the opening with his knights and appears to regain only a part of it. One alternative to 11...Bd7 is 11..Qc7 so that 12 Qh5+ can be answered with 11...Qf7. |
Aug-07-16 | | blackdranzer: @Eyal
black's opening was risky but not really bad...instead of 17.... Rd8?!
17...f5 is a must and black is okay |

 | | keypusher: <eyal > <perfidious> Thanks, very illuminating. |
Aug-07-16 | | SetNoEscapeOn: Vishy's position was not so bad; he had only <One foot in Lagrave>. |
Aug-07-16 | | SChesshevsky: <As Robert Hess notes in his analysis of the game on chess.com, MVL may have missed his best attacking chances on moves 17-18 with f5!> A strange game. Seems by move 18 or so there can be a lot of open lines in this opening. But not in this game. Here at 18.f5, they both might be in somewhat of a bind and I'm not sure either player expected that given some past play: Carlsen vs Grischuk, 2016
L Dominguez vs M Vachier-Lagrave, 2013
Fischer vs F Olafsson, 1959 |
Aug-30-16 | | mandor: Wow, thanks <SChesshevsky>, for the references. I thought that the line was new (and it seems very conceptual), and indeed the plan of f3 (7.Nfg1) was a novelty right!?. White loses tempo's trying to explode Ne4 position.. very conceptual and concrete variation right?! (modern chess!) |
Dec-09-16 | | j4jishnu: Who says Vishy has no more miracles to produce in Chess? Sinquefield Cup 2016 proves his mettle. Congratulations Vishwanathan Anand. Keep making us proud. Jai Hind, Vande Mataram. |
Feb-27-17 | | JosephSire: Does anyone even realize MVL would queen first? |
Mar-03-17 | | 7he5haman: <JosephSire> ??? |
