PawnSac: hmmm. 15. ..d5 is a curious choice. I would have thought ..h6 instead.

PawnSac: maybe Fab will teach us a new idea in this opening

patzer2: Maybe Caruana has something prepared after 15...d5!? However, 15..h6 as in Black's win in M Grigoryan vs M Motycakova, 2016 is a good alternative.
Sep-12-16  Marmot PFL: Looks about even, but US is already up a pawn on boards 3 and 4.

PawnSac: jaabova is takin some time now (Fab used a lot of clock earlier).

PawnSac: Jabova obviously intended Qh5 but he seems to be at somewhat of an impass. The position is tactically complex. I think this may end up a defining moment of the game.

patzer2: Yes, this does look about level. USA is ahead on board 3 and 4, but behind on board 2.

PawnSac: < 29. ..Re7 > Fab should have no problem holding this to a draw
Sep-12-16  Marmot PFL: Sammy won, Wes is winning. Good thing too as Nakamura is getting killed.
Sep-12-16  Marmot PFL: Kramnik in great form now, probably win the bd 2 medal.
Sep-12-16  Marmot PFL: Two strong players here in a cautious opening, and result is an equal looking ending.

HeMateMe: If black could get his Knight to d6 and push a pawn to c4 the game might be over quickly. The connected passers would be a killer.

HeMateMe: Wow, this is the last game. Nak lost but So and Shank both won. The worst we can do is tie. Maybe the team captain should just tell Caruana to offer a draw? I guess that would be refused. Don't see any winning chances for Joba, unless he gets his two pawns connected and moving on the kingside..

Gypsy: Looks like the knight may be on the path <Ng6-e7-d5-e3>. (That would really cork White down.)
Sep-12-16  Marmot PFL: One round left after today.

Gypsy: I like Black chances more and more
Sep-12-16  Marmot PFL: Be very hard for black to lift the light square blockade.
Sep-12-16  GreenLantern: Hold the draw Fab!

HeMateMe: N-e3 looks like the natural move. Maybe Fab is worried about checks from the Rook + Bishop battery on the light squares?
Sep-12-16  Marmot PFL: f5 and h5 are weak and Bb4 isn't active now, so white has full compensation.
Sep-12-16  sudoplatov: The final position seems a bit better for Black. Is g4 for White strong enough to overcome the Bishop (though bad at this point) vs Knight? On the other hand, perhaps White can keep Rooks on the board.
Sep-12-16  whiteshark: Back from the beach, and it's already over. :(
Sep-12-16  sudoplatov: I assume as a team game, a draw gives the US a match point. I also assume that the results pf the So and Shankland were known. Thus situations like the following were unnecessary. Marshall vs K Treybal, 1933
