wwall: 36...Rd5?? is the losing move. Once the rooks come off the game, White will win. Black had to play almost anything else but ...Rd5.

In the endgame, after 46...Ke4, 47.h4! was the only move to win. Then, after 47...Kf4, 48.h5! was the only move to win. Then, after 48...Kg5, 49.Kf7! was the only move to win for White.

Feb-10-18  Whitehat1963: Great little Tuesdayish endgame puzzle after 48...g5.
Apr-12-19  andrewjsacks: Remarkable play for a kid this age. Naturally. Naturally indeed. Capa was chess-blessed.

Honza Cervenka: Simple 18...Qxd6 was much better.

Indeed. Deep computer analysis gives 18...♕xd6 evaluation of around -1,5 which is much better for black. Every other move is +1,0 (starting with 18...♕h4) or higher, which is much better for white and thus a major difference in comparison to the best move.

The thing is black refused to take d-pawn without any compensation. Just a clear oversight which costed him a game.

HeMateMe: thank you! Of course 'blanco' means white, en espanol, the small joke there.

13 year old Capa has already learned how to play K + P endgames, with no help from Fred Reinfield books!

Apr-12-19  lzromeu: nice pun

And since Capablanca in Spanish means "white cape", perhaps "Double White Out" might have been an even more appropriate game title.

Apr-12-19  Jambow: Nice pun <HeMateMe>...
Apr-13-19  veerar: <Honza Cervenka> 19.Ne4 still seems good for White.I have not used any Computer Program.

Well, white has hardly anything better but after 18...Qxd6 19.Ne4 Nf4 black keeps the extra Pawn and some advantage.
