Feb-27-17 | | JosephSire: Why didn't Aronian just take the bishop ? Am I missing something? |
|
Feb-27-17 | | Marmot PFL: Open is Catalan (E06)
I would also have traded the bishop but Aronian either didn't want to strengthen white's center or wanted a more complicated game. Then it seems he underestimated the danger to his king position. I didn't like g6 (inviting h5) either. |

Feb-27-17 | | fisayo123: 37. Rd6! Is a pretty impressive shot by white, offering to sacrifice the exchange and after that, white's bishop pair + the threat of mate prove a breach to far for black. Effortless win from Ding Liren who made it look easy. He's now 3-0 vs Aronian in just 6 classical games. |
|
Feb-27-17 | | JosephSire: Aronian had the opportunity to take the bishop without losing the night he would have lost his queen but three major pieces vs the queen? I'id rather do that then flat out lose Aronian is really slipping I met him at O Hare airport in Chicago when he was number 2 and was really proud to have met such a solid chess player but he's draw master general now not impressed at all |

Feb-27-17 | | 7he5haman: <JosephSire: Why didn't Aronian just take the bishop ? Am I missing something?> If 41...Qxe6 then 42.Qd8+ Qe8 43.Bg7+ Kxg7 44.Qxe8 wins If 43...Qxe6 then 42.Qd8+ Qe8 43.Bh6+ Kg8 44.Qxe8#. If in this line Black tries instead 42...Kg7 then 43.h6# <Aronian is really slipping I met him at O Hare airport in Chicago when he was number 2 and was really proud to have met such a solid chess player but he's draw master general now not impressed at all> And yet he's much better than you* will ever be. *or I
He's played some nice games recently. Look them up. |

Feb-27-17 | | dumbgai: Ding plays really well against Aronian. |
|
Feb-28-17 | | JosephSire: Move 42. Black should Q x e 6 then black only has Q - d8+ black goes Q - e8 to block check bishop goes to e7+ Kxg7 Qxe8 but then it's three major pieces vs one queen probably a draw at least or a win for Levon |
|
Feb-28-17 | | JosephSire: I follow all the games when the top players are playing so what good Recent Aronian games do you speak of? His Fide Grand Prix performance was very unimpressive drawing every single game except Lirens excellent victory |
|
Feb-28-17 | | JosephSire: Can you guys check this game out? M Vachier-Lagrave vs Anand, 2016 Anand wins but I'm positive Lagrange can queen first |

Black only has a Rook and Knight in your line. Where's this mysterious third major piece that you speak of?? He played some nice games at Tata Steel earlier this year: Tata Steel (2017)/Levon Aronian <JosephSire: Can you guys check this game out? M Vachier-Lagrave vs Anand, 2016
Anand wins but I'm positive Lagrange can queen first> Sorry, I'm not doing all the work for you; post your line, and then I'll tell you where you're going wrong. |

 | | OhioChessFan: I have to think 37. Rd6 caught Aronian by surprise, ergo, he was half beaten. |
|
Mar-14-17 | | morfishine: A wonderful ending
such is chess
no matter if standard setup or chess960, such positions are wonders to the imaginative player ***** |
|
Sep-21-17 | | tjipa: So, now they are lined up for the World cup final. Although I have always liked Aronian, I am kind of rooting for Ding Liren - because he is a kind of an outside guy in this in or near 2800 rated circle. |
