However, while White lost a pawn they kept position and after 23. Rad1 the game enters its critical phase:

Black played 23... Re5 which is not a bad move, but it cuts the connection between Black's Rooks. Weakens the 8th rank. It's a defending move.

However, in this cases -trust me- when one is a pawn up, while that pawn is under strong pressure, one has to look for alternatives.

S8's suggestion 23... g5 threatens g4 and would have kept the pawn for Black.
