  OhioChessFan: Hilarious. Learn American culture. BTW, my prediction that 2 of your first 7 puns would be bad has already proven right. You need 5 good ones in a row just to reach that.

  MissScarlett: <Learn American culture.> It's because I understand the pun that I criticise it. It's not the pun itself to which I object, merely your lack of effort and wit.

Incidentally, who said this?

<In the future, I'd recommend avoiding puns based on profanity. Really, really unprofessional.> chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #35497)

Given that to understand your pun, one has to know it means <@#$% you, Biden!>, shouldn't I delete it with your blessing?

  OhioChessFan: <CIO> do you think <Scarlett's> original post was appropriate for the person who selects puns to make? Can you imagine Daniel doing it? Doesn't it seem a bit inappropriate for someone who insinuated himself into a decision making position to instigate an issue where he's begged himself into holding the car keys? And again, he didn't know the reference.

I won't post the OCF-CIO score, but I am pretty confident who is winning.

  MissScarlett: I score it <MS 1 OCF -1>, but the game apparently isn't over.

<And again, he didn't know the reference.>

Of course I knew the reference - that's why I called it lazy. Otherwise, the worst you could've expected from me would've been a <Huh?>

Every morning I survey the BBC website, if only to find out what the enemy are thinking. Yesterday there was:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us...

As the article omitted the actual chant, I then went to look it up on YT.

Or are you calling me a liar too?

  MissScarlett: <OhioChessFan: Wow. Do people take the puns a little seriously? Someone must have seen I had the highest rated pun score, 2 evaluations with a 21 average, and rated mine a 0, leaving it at 3 evaluations and a 14 average.

Oh. That clears things up. Wait. What exactly was lazy about it?

<As the article omitted the actual chant, I then went to look it up on YT.>

Wow, what a lot of work just to respond to one post of mine ? So 2 days after a post/pun submission, one of 7000 on the books, you went in all sincerity to check on it, hoping it'd be good enough to run. Because you're so eager to run one of my puns. Riiiight.

<Or are you calling me a liar too?>

In the big picture, I don't believe the story.

<Let's go Brandon!>

Proceed to <cg.com>. Search for <Brandon> and <1st player wins>. Voila...92 games. No high level games but let's choose one, apparently at random. Isn't that how it went? Or did you trawl through all 92 games to determine the best quality game?

Sorry, but in my book, this is strictly level 1 stuff. Hence the kindly advice to do better.

Why assume I read the article and checked YT just to respond to you? No doubt I saw your post on the 10th but, equally no doubt, not understanding it, I ignored it. Only yesterday did its meaning become apparent.

Is the big picture, however little, becoming clearer?

So far, so good.

<apparently at random.>

Nope.

<Isn't that how it went?>

Nope.

< Or did you trawl through all 92 games to determine the best quality game?>

Nope. I did go through some. You figure every pun submitted was based on searching 94 games? You're digging a deeper hole for yourself here. Just quit with the ex post facto explanation. I don't believe you.

<Sorry, but in my book, this is strictly level 1 stuff. >

Again, as opposed to every other pun submitted? Your "lazy" remark was made after you'd trolled all the Brandon games? Stop already.

<Hence the kindly advice to do better.>

Your sincere efforts to help me are bringing me to tears. By the by, why so much effort on me and me alone?

  MissScarlett: <You figure every pun submitted was based on searching 94 games?>

I figure they should be based on better puns than <Let's go Brandon!>

<<Sorry, but in my book, this is strictly level 1 stuff. >

Again, as opposed to every other pun submitted?>

Most of the puns are level 0/1. I haven't selected any of those yet either. But in time, as the low-hanging fruit dwindles, I may weaken.

<By the by, why so much effort on me and me alone?>

Well, for someone who claims that the <GOTD> is merely a lighthearted feature, you seem terribly exercised about it. Even more so than <Messiah>.

Just relax and leave matters in my capable hands.

I was, until you started here. I note your non-response to the points I raised that you're busted on. In particular, that you have no business publicly commenting. I win.

If you don't want to heed my advice and do better, that's your affair.

<I note your non-response to the points I raised that you're busted on.>

I was too busy refuting your points on my being a liar. It's unclear where you now stand on the matter.

<In particular, that you have no business publicly commenting.>

Disagree. I saw nothing about that in the job description. Besides, I like to go my own way - appeals to the memory of Saint Daniel are going to fall on deaf ears. I'm under the - admittedly hasty - impression that things have been going rather well, but then I would be, wouldn't I? If, however, enough people share your angst and complain en masse, I'll be happy to return to the ranks and pass the crown on to some wiser head.

Your "advice". Riiight. And it's my affair, but you keep coming back. After suggesting I drop something you started, no less.

You can and have acted the punk for years all over the site, and inexplicably, people have always given you a pass. Not me. I get that you're not used to it.

As for in the job description, I won't even pretend to believe you think that isn't part of the gig.

  MissScarlett: Now you've got that off your chest, how about we return to the small matter of how you reconcile your own well-meaning advice <In the future, I'd recommend avoiding puns based on profanity.   Check It Out: <OCF> I don't know if <MS> knew the reference, don't care. I agree with the profanity criticism. That said, if <MS> is formally in charge of pun selection, put in place by <Susan Freeman> (I don't know if that's the case), then public pun shaming such as <lazy. Do better> is unprofessional, as is the continued back and forth on <MS's> part. If I ran the show I'd tell <MS> in private to act in a manner in keeping with a staff member performing for a professional business, which in this case means being <publicly> neutral with regards to pun selection and judgement.

Therefore, I revise my game score to:

MS: 0
OCF: 0

  OhioChessFan: <CIO> I guess I'm with you on don't care about knowing the reference. As for any unfinished business, I don't see it as even close to the profanity issue I'd raised previously. I immediately thought of it as goal post moving, and responded in that vein, but okay, there's some point there.

I'll try to dial it back. Tomorrow is a new day.
