Everett: A queen for a rook and paired, passed, center-pawns on the fifth rank. Worth it!
Feb-21-19  Whitehat1963: Great game! Definitely didn’t go in the direction I thought it would!
Feb-21-19  FairyPromotion: Wei Yi = God of Sicilians
Feb-21-19  luzhin: Great Q sac, but the counter-sac 29...Rxa2!! seems good for a draw. The first new move in the game was 18...Rc6 (an improvement on 18...Rf8, played by Yu Yangyi against Karjakin in 2015.)

Penguincw: 10...Bb4+. 11.Ke2 is the only move that's ever been played here, per the database.

Opening Explorer

Of course, this is a reason why, as other moves are inferior, but always shocking to see a king move in the opening for the first time. (just like V Gunina vs Z Abdumalik, 2019)

Feb-21-19  FairyPromotion: Hmmmmm, upon replaying the game I noticed the great contrast in the name length these two have.

GotD: Make a Long Story Short

Feb-22-19  Whitehat1963: Not so Hilario for black.
Feb-23-19  paavoh: Wei Too Hilarious

An Englishman: Good Evening: Another brilliant pun! Also, surprised myself to learn how much theory and how many games exist in the 11.Ke2 variation. Rather wild stuff.

On a side note, <morf> might stop coming to <GOTD> games.

<man> what are you doing here?

RoseMei: I think this game is a record holder on This game is a world record for the biggest difference in length between the names of the players. "Wei Yi" (only 5 letters long) vs. "Alexandr Hilario Takeda dos Santos Fier" (I count 34 letters long). :)
Aug-08-20  Olavi: <RoseMei: I think this game is a record holder on This game is a world record for the biggest difference in length between the names of the players.>

I think that can be bettered. People with aristocratic names… Kieseritzky already has 42 letters the way it's given here (mind the cyrillic) and it's not necessarily his full name - and not necessarily aristocratic.

Aug-08-20  morfishine: 'Fier' is pronounced 'fear'

'Flush' is pronounced 'Flush' which is what I'm doing to this game title right now

OhioChessFan: <jith: a side note, <morf> might stop coming to <GOTD>>

That was too much to hope for...

Aug-08-20  jith1207: Hahahahahahaha. :))))
