Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-11-19  swordfish: Why not 3...Ne4?
Mar-11-19  Count Wedgemore: <swordfish: Why not 3...Ne4?>

3...Nxe4 achieves nothing. After 4.Qh5 (White should of course not play 4.Nxe4, since the pawn fork 4...d5! gives Black the upper hand), Black has no better than to retreat his knight (4...Nd6 or 4...Nf6). Thus White will quickly win back the pawn with 5.Qxe5+, and a huge advantage in development.

Mar-15-19  Kwesi: 4...Nf6 Qxf7#
Mar-15-19  Count Wedgemore: <Kwesi> Ah, yes, The Scholar's Mate. Yes, you're right of course. 4...Nf6 is not possible. The knight would have to retreat to d6 (if 3...Nxe4 4.Qh5).
