Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-10-20  Sokrates: The attack beginning with 13.Rb4 was well planned and carried through. Koneru's bishop quickly suffered hardship on the king side. Excellent game by Muzychuk.
Feb-13-20  Count Wedgemore: Funny how White's dark-squared bishop never moved but still indirectly played its part in the attack.

HeMateMe: demonstrates weak pawns in the petrov. It's a bit conservative for black, not too ambitious.

A Muzychuk vs O Kobo, 2020
Feb-25-20  paavoh: I feel that Black should have played -NxNe5 at some point before -Nxc3, to make the White pawn structure a tad weaker.

White would like to put a R on the h-file but h4 is covered and after 21.Rh3 black has the annoying 21...Qxe5 (threatening 22...Qe1+).

Muzychuk's solution was to put her Q there instead but that meant vacating the g-file for a while. A better solution would have been to sac the e-pawn with <21.e6!>. There is no good way to decline the sac but accepting it blocks the e-file leaving white free to play 22.Rh3.

This sac is only possible because black has just vacated the f-file with <20...Rfe8?> so I guess both players missed this little tactic.

Feb-25-20  ajile: Humpy Humpy sat on a Wall Humpy Humpy had a GREAT FALL.
Feb-26-20  Ironmanth: Brutal finish; evidently Humpy's only misstep in the tournament. Thanks, chessgames.

saffuna: Muzychuk calls 18...Qe7 the decisive mistake. She says 18... Qg5 was OK.
