iking: tragic end for Vidit ...
Feb-22-20  Tontolou Kuda: Vidit lost the last two games. 2 draws would have made him champion. That was atrocious to say the least.

jith1207: What's more atrocious was that only one draw in those last 2 games would have made him the winner.

Feb-22-20  SpiritedReposte: ...and had a completely won position in the first game of those two...that is downright grotesque.
Feb-22-20  MordimerChess: Jan Krzysztof Duda said in interview that probably nobody could recover after such loss like Vidit in 8th round. And he proved that by playing O-O-O in his game against Hindu grandmaster. Gujrathi played too passive and lost without much fight. He had some little chances to nearly equalize the game but he didn't try to get any activity for pieces.

His first chance was to play 16...Ba4 17. Bc2 Bxc2 18. Kxc2 Bg7⩱ with still equal chances.

And his last chance was 31...Rb8! 32. Rxf2 Nc3+ 33. Kc2 Nxe4 which could prolong his game but would be probably loss as well.

I made the analysis with commentary here:

Seems like Vidit lost the game in his head before the round started. Same in playoff. Feel bad for him.

Feb-22-20  cormier: maybe 14...Nxd4
