beenthere240: Ding made 2 weird pawn grabs that did not appear to faze the champ.
Jul-02-20  Ulhumbrus: 3...Qd5 brings the queen out early.
7...h6 moves a pawn in the opening.

9...a5 is not as useful for Black as 9 a3 is useful for White: 9 a3 deprives Black's king's bishop of the square b4 while 9...a5 does not deprive White of any square

Suppose that instead of 9 a3 White plays 9 d4. On 9...0-0 10 Nb5 Black can't play 10...Bb4. On 9...e4 10 Ne5 discovers a counter-attack on Black's e4 pawn.

An alternative to 19 e4 is 19 d4 eg 19...e4 20 Ne5 Bxe5 21 dxe5 with the bishop pair

An alternative to 20 Bxe5 is 20 d4 eg 20...Nxe4 21 Nxe5 Bxe5 22 dxe5 with the bishop pair.

It may be that Ding Liren tried mistakenly to extract more than a slight advantage from the position.

One question is whether, after Black's loss of time in the opening, the right choices on White's part will lead to disaster for Black as in the game Reti vs R Grau, 1924
