Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-05-20  Ulhumbrus: An alternative to 8...e5 is 8...Qc7 or 8...b6

One objection to 10...Qe7 is that Black cannot answer 11 d5 with 11...Na5 as then the check 12 Qa4+ becomes a fork, as the N is undefended.

One alternative to 10...Qe7 is 10...g6 freeing the king's knight to go to d7.

Jul-05-20  Atking: Interesting is the gambit 11...e4!? 12.Bb1 Ne5 13.Nxe4 NxN 14.BxN Kd8 (Or immediately f5!?) then Kc7 (The safest square for the King) and b6&Ba6. Here Ne5 > Bc1 and the pawn up with such bad double pawns on c file is of little value.
Jul-05-20  Atking: After 14.Bg5 White has an obvious advantage.
Jul-07-20  MordimerChess: Obviously h5 was bad. Nb8 was bad. But Giri had at least two chances to draw the game, nearly the end. 43... Kc5
47... c3
