Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-23-20  Albanius: After an epic struggle, Anand could have won with 63 Nf4!, according to the commentators and stockfish here. Instead, he hung the N to a double attack, losing immediately.
Jul-24-20  Ulhumbrus: It may be that in order to win Anand had to find at each step not just the right choice of attacking move but the right choice of difficult attacking move - and in a quickplay game the players are not given time to think. However the computer evaluations suggest that Kramnik went wrong more than once as well, and did not have to reach a lost position. Anand was the one who made the proverbial last mistake, and so congratulations to Kramnik.
Jul-24-20  MordimerChess: The best game of the tournament so far. Two legendary legends played legendary game with legendary pawn chain.

Just WOW!!

Anyway, it was insane roller coaster. Anand got winning position... seems like 44. Rf1 was winning. Black would be forced to block f file and then white would win with Ra1-a7-a8 maneuver.

Then Kramnik blundered 54...c2 was winning!

Then Kramnik blundered again and Anand got winning position but he missed 63. Nf4 !!

Insane game...

savage sanctuary: Vlady K only has 8 wins with the FD in his entire career!

For a whole decade (2005-2015) he stopped playing it completely.

saffuna: A tremendous game, very aesthetically pleasing.

Too bad it was a rapid, as both players missed wins a couple of times, according to Daniel King: Not enough time to calculate deeply.

The positions starting around move 40 are extraordinary, with the two parallel pawn chains, and the two pairs of knights on opposite sides of the board.

Aug-10-20  johnkr: saffuna - Yes nice analysis by King. But he fingers the move 46 Kg3 as a blunder, saying that 46 Kf1 was best. But Stockfish in fact approves 46 Kg3 Ng6 47.Ra7+ Kd8 48 h4! as advantage for White (instead of Anand's 48 Ra8+).
