GrahamClayton: De Visser's choice of the Wing Gambit (2.b4) against Shipley's Sicilian Defence leads to a wild and complicated position.

fredthebear: This long, enjoyable mating combination includes a sham queen sacrifice. The battery 18.Bd3 threatens mate and matters roll for a dozen moves. Black could have avoided the continued combination by 22...Kh6 and/or 27...RxBe4, which immediately drops the rook to 28.Nf6+ and 29.NxRe4.

The checkmate pattern should be named, but this thrilling example is a bit of a help mate in that regard. A salute to William M De Visser nonetheless.

For now, I suppose it's a double check, double bishop mate. Or, simply raking bishops and knight mate. Perhaps someone who's better at using computers can find a more famous player who played the same checkmate pattern.
