Aug-20-20  Ulhumbrus: The computer gave 22...Re8!! in order to clear the square f8 for Black's king so that after 23 Nxg7 Kxg7 24 Qg5+ Black would have the option of 24...Kf8.

This use of a centralisation namely, to clear an additional flight square for the king in the event of a sacrifice, seems a useful resource to know about.

offramp: Everyone loves to have bishops like the ones on b1 and b2.

They are not easy to bring about, especially when you have a 2800+ opponent trying to stop you. It cost Carlsen 2 pawns to get them, but later they allowed Nxg7 and Qxh7+, so they made their money back.

Carlsen's attack reminded me of some of Spielmann's best games.

Aug-20-20  Everyone: <<Everyone> loves to have bishops like the ones on b1 and b2.> Right! But of course not only there.
