Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-09-22  holytramp: This game was an unexpected pleasure!!

Interesting facts: Oliver Penrose was only 19 here and Eugene Znosko-Borovsky was 64 yrs old; Oliver would soon become an extremely accomplished physicist; also, Oliver's brother was 10-time British chess champion Jonathan Penrose.

Meanwhile, Eugene, even with his advanced age, must have been the heavy favorite in this game- as he had been one the the world's strongest chess players for decades, with many solid tournaments and notable wins.

So it seems that Oliver, as a clear underdog, and especially playing black, decided to swing for the fences- opening his king early in order to create rapid attacking lanes, while mixing in strange-- almost AlphaZero-like quiet moves along the way, in order to obtain his desired killer position.

I love Oliver's young bravado- 26...Nxg5(!) and all of his slashing continuations. Such obvious talent here. So wondering... if he had devoted his life to chess- what could have been?! (Btw he's still alive, approaching 95 yrs or so!!)
