Thank you for the kind words.

I highly enjoyed the 'thousands and thousands of hours' of entertainment your game collections alone do provide everyone here everyday all totally 'drama free'. Great content mate, vielen Dank!!

And users trying to make themselves looking important/systemically relevant in this so irrelevant CG bubble should not bother you at all. Same with some grumpy seniles that have the habit to perpetuity circle jerk preferably on live pages. They do this for years, that alone is karma enought and should bring back a fat bear smile on your rosy cheeks. Believe me, they are miserable :)

PS: The 'net worth' posting over at Keres some time ago. That was just an example to show (me) the simplicity of following up a perfectly reasonable posting with one (in this case mine) diametrically opposite (on several levels) using of a bogus secondary source. If I remeber correctly there were several other dead serious postings that day (or was it every day ...) trying to contradict the validity of postings using that kind of 'stylistic device'.

Took under a minute to find, in that sense it was 'worth' it.

Fred, we might see each other again when the tech issues are finally solved here. Knowing this place that could well be sometime in 2022 ...

In the meantime you might enjoy this little pizza channel

FSR: IMO the only real knock on this game is that the queen and rook sac were unnecessary. With White's king on a5 there were lots of pedestrian wins.

fredthebear: True. 23...Nc3+ instead threatens mate on the move. Most would prefer the artistic combination version.

6/27/2021? Good grief. The world is spinning faster every... night. That's Progressivism. This website is a technological time bomb.

FSR: <fredthebear> I certainly agree. But most people wouldn't have looked for, or wouldn't have found, Devos' spectacular finish. And most White players would have resigned before finding their king on a5.

fredthebear: Good to know, a sign of the times here. I shall assume it has nothing to do with Fort Lauderdale (DF's last known residence) being the county seat and largest city of Broward County. Yeah, that Broward County. The right (necessary) changes would be welcome here. Will bitcoin be next? https://www.dummies.com/software/bi...

Glad to see state and national parks are available this summer (out-of-staters were forbidden summer 2020). Last year, in some areas of the USA, police were arresting parents for taking their kids to the playgrounds and parks that were closed to the public in the name of isolationism. By decree, we lost some of our freedom, and some jobs, on the mayor's say-so, simple as that.

The beat goes on. The North Carolina State baseball team was just dismissed from the college world series tournament for having too many positive COVID-19 tests. "The NCAA, in conjunction with the Douglas County Health Department in Omaha, Nebraska where the tournament is played, ruled N.C. State unable to continue participating and ruled the game a no-contest."

With that (being a fully vaccinated bear), I think I'll go look up the next OTB chess tournament in my twilight zone.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Honestly, wondered at first if this constituted a spurious composed game. Why? Because of 17...Re6, which looks pointless until move 24. How on earth could Black have anticipated the need to put a Rook on that rank?! It can't go anywhere useful! At first.

Checked Devos' biography, and yes, a multiple-time national champion (Belgium) does have the talent to come up with such a brilliant combination.

Jun-10-25  goodevans: <17...Re6, which looks pointless...>

Have you been hitting the sauce my dear chap?

17...Rxe6 is far from pointless. The first point, surely, is to capture White's N and the second is to protect his own which is attacked by White's Q. These two alone are sufficient to justify 17...Rxe6. Any others, like the later ability to deliver a check on a6, are surely just a bonus.

I did, though, also enjoy the final combination which was most elegant.

perfidious: A lovely attacking game by Devos, illustrating the dynamic potential in this line, a popular variation in the late 1940s.

An Englishman: Good Afternoon: and good heavens, <goodevans>, three of me five remaining brain cells must have taken the night off. As for "sauce," congratulations on your superb perception! The "sauce" in question consisted of a 1958 Chateau d'Yquem.
