0ZeR0: What a marathon! Both players demonstrate their strong nerves in this one-hundred forty move behemoth. Eventually white finds a way to win.

HeMateMe: hard to follow the reasoning behind the moves. I wonder if black ever missed calling out a 3 position repetition, draw?

paulalbert: I took a quick look playing through the game, and I did not see any three times repeat of the position, although it takes close scrutiny since the positions do not have to be consecutive. It is the kind of thing ( and also the 50 move rule ) that an experienced GM like Aleksandr Lenderman would be monitoring carefully, while trying to win and also gain some time by quick repetitions.

Aleksandr is a very solid, knowlegdeable, strong GM who never has quite gotten into the top echelon of U.S. GMs, although he got to a half point of being in the playoffs in this championship and won the U.S. Open this year, so very competitive against even the best players.

A very pleasant and polite young man, I used to see him at the Marshall and other eastern tournaments when we still lived in South Salem, NY. before moving to Texas.

One time when I said I knew how to force mate with N and B he convivially challenged me to do it against him. I succeeded, but he set a lot of stalemate traps once I forced him to edge.

Oct-24-21  Granny O Doul: Doesn't the software here identify such claimable draws? Sometimes it won't even allow you to move anymore.

This issue has already been flagged up for attention. At the current rate of progress, this year looks optimistic.

Oct-24-21  Granny O Doul: @MissScarlett: Exciting times, thanks!

Kamsky vs I Novikov, 2006 (from an earlier US Championship tourney) saw Black fall heartbreakingly short of a 50-move draw claim.
