 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: Aronian has unleashed his endgame mastery again; the rest of the field had better beware. 42.White to Move will make a good puzzle someday. |

Feb-06-22 | | Jambow: March of the ten thousand pawns that is...
This game is so much of what quintessentially defines Aronians style, always exchanging, moving and trading to give himself pieces on foreword outposts. After the artillery and tanks are in position brings the troops into the enemy camp supported by said artillery. Levon also flanks on the entire battle field to great effect. Would be nice to see this one time world number 2 have a revival of sorts. |

 | | perfidious: White plays an innocuous line of the exchange Caro-Kann, then relinquishes his good bishop for free, saddling himself with isolated, doubled pawns into the bargain, and wins anyway. This is Laskerian magic at work. |

 | | Atterdag: Agree with you, gentlemen. Yes, Lasker but also Capa comes to my mind. Rarely have I seen a piece so powerful as the bishop on d6. And yes, it would be great to see Aronian at the top again. Unfortunately, his nerves seem to get the better of him, when it counts. |

Feb-07-22 | | Ulhumbrus: After 12 cxd3 the question is whether White's doubled d pawns will become targets for Black's pieces or whether they will become a weapon that denies squares to Black's pieces and supports White's pieces. Instead of 15...a5, 15...Bd7 prods the knight on a4 that denies the square b6 to Black's queen |

There followed <18.Bf4 Qe7 19.Nxd7 Nxd7 20.Rc7 Rfc8 21.Rec1 Qd8 22.Qc2> click for larger viewBlack is fully on the defensive, with his minor pieces looking clearly inferior to their white counterparts. Keymer traded queens and a pair of rooks, and saw his opponent calmly up the pressure in the ensuing struggle. This is how the position looked by move 30.
click for larger viewThe material is equal, but Black has his pieces tied to the defence of his king and the many pawn weaknesses on his camp. Making full use of his rival’s paralysed army, Aronian patiently activated his king and grabbed space on the kingside. click for larger viewCompared to the previous diagram, all the black pieces and pawns are on the exact same squares (except that he has no pawn on f7 now), while White has pushed his army to give the final blow and win the game —
Keymer resigned after the cool-looking <42.f5!>" https://en.chessbase.com/post/fide-... Greatness is reflected in simplicity. |

Feb-07-22 | | whiteshark: Btw Keymer was down to 45 sec while Aronian still had 54 mins on the clock. |

Feb-07-22 | | SChesshevsky: < "White is already better here..."> Looks after 17. Nc5, whites practically just about winning. Appears every one of his pieces is better than blacks. And at least two of blacks seem to have very minimal mid term futures. Would guess if black is able to survive, he's going to have to be very accurate in a very unpleasant position. Maybe Keymer caught off guard with 12. cxd3. 12...Qb6 to 14...Qd6 doesn't feel right as a response. Guessing Vincent and Leko will be going over this game/opening pretty thoroughly after the tournament. |

Feb-13-22 | | Stanco: <An Englishman> yes, that would be nice Wednesday! 😊
but 17.Nc5 is a good Sunday!
I'm certain Aronian had in mind 42.f5 when he played 17.Nc5! |

 | | HeMateMe: Why doesn't black play 13...QxP? |

Feb-18-22
 | | takebackok: If 13...Qxb2 then 14 Na4 - Queen moves, Knight can go to b6 or/with Rook b1 almost winning. |

 | | HeMateMe: Knight-b6 attacks a Rook but doesn't win it. |
