moronovich: Not that easy to draw, acording to Caruana. Still som work to be done from Ding.
Apr-29-23  metatron2: Very strong try by Nepo there, giving his f6 pawn, and going for Rb2-b3+ maneuver, without advancing his a-pawn further for now.

Ding would have probably made an easy draw vs other plans, but this one is very tricky to defend with white.

perfidious: Ding can reduce this to the standard drawn ending of R and BP+RP v R. Trouble is, he appears to be taking oceans of time when he hasn't enough.

This game is proving an object example of something I have oft noted: with no adjournments in the modern game, one must understand what to do, cos no more turning to Keres or BCE and burning the midnight oil.

Apr-29-23  stone free or die: Guess I should go watch the live action at this point... yes, Ding's clock is looking bad.
Apr-29-23  whiteshark: China Syndrome
Apr-29-23  stone free or die: I think Ding holds. Especially as Nepo is also burning buckets of time trying to find cracks that aren't there.

But I've been wrong before.

Apr-29-23  stone free or die: Ding is banging out the moves now.

(The burden of proof is on Nepo to invent pressure)

Apr-29-23  stone free or die: Like Caruana just observed, Ding's plan is simplier - he only has one piece to move - the king.

Korora: Black's crow is tied to rank three and White's crow to the a-file.
Apr-29-23  stone free or die: "What I'm trying to say is study rook endgames" - Caruana

Hilarious!

perfidious: Nepo finally acquiesced to the inevitable.

Korora: At the end of fourteen: Nepomiachtchi 3, Ding 3, the Cat 8.
Apr-29-23  stone free or die: Ian in his chair at the press conference, frowning, making faces, shaking his head no.
Apr-29-23  metatron2: Very high level play from both sides in this 50-moves rooks endgame, despite the fact they were both very tired, and with everything that was at stake..

That was just another example of the level of this match, when they were not playing double edge open middlegame positions, that all humans blunder plenty in when checked vs an engine.

Apr-29-23  stone free or die: Most difficult game...

Ding "Game 7 ... time trouble ... lost my train of thought ... (afterwards) it influenced me"

Apr-29-23  diceman: <AdolfoAugusto:

To draw or not to draw, that is the question!>

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of the a pawn, Or to take arms against the f and h pawns.

Apr-29-23  stone free or die: Nepo, after being asked why he rushes his moves at certain critical positions in several of the match games - "That's a good point."

(I though Nepo might be annoyed with the question, and admired his answer)

* * * * *

Ding, on how he would spend some of his prize money - "I'd like to travel"

fredthebear: There's little monitoring on CGs during the weekends. Pete's a golfer, boater, sunbather, etc. Can't blame the guy for being so lively.
Apr-30-23  jerseybob: What an excruciating game to play through, in its final phase, bringing back memories of Geller-Fischer, with the exception there was a winner in that one, due largely to Bobby's magic hypnotic powers. Nepo alas has nothing like that to fall back on. I'll ask the obvious dumb question: Why not 53..a2, threatening Rh1, trading the a-pawn for white's h-pawn? If 54.Kg2,Re1 55.Rxa2,Rxe4. Is this a theoretical draw?
