  offramp: Faustino was 11 yesterday.

In about 8 years Argentina could have spawned the chess World Champion, and the football World Champions, the pope and the great TV programme <Rompeportones> with Sabrina Pettinato.

What a country!

Oct-15-24  mrknightly: OK, gonna need some help with the "pun." Oro = gold in Spanish, got that. SOS, part of the black player's name. Just don't see where the cross comes in or the meaning of the phrase in total. I like <tamar>'s suggestion above. Or perhaps the "Golden Fist" (faust = fist in German). There's even a Golden Retriever rescue website called SOSGolden. Anyone?

  Honza Cervenka: Immediate 19...Bg4 with idea 20.h3 Bh5 20.g4 Bg6 21.Bd3 Rf3 deserved attention.

35...Qc6 was a mistake, black should insert 35...Qh1+ 36.Rd1 Qc6.

  Teyss: Hi mrknightly & OhioChessFan,

I was wondering too. mrknightly, you got most elements right, now how do they fit together and apply to the game? Re. the latter there is some sort of a cross shape after Black's 34th move. Vaguely, like a Christian cross inversed. With a good deal of imagination.

Re. the former there apparently are some charities named Golden Cross but they're not world famous, maybe they are in Brazil. Or maybe User: Gottschalk is colour blind and thinks it's the Red Cross.

So our punster took all elements, the two player's names, the vague cross-shape on the board, the unknown charity and combined them in just three short words. Quite an achievement.

Oh, the game. Impressive for an 11 y.o.

Oct-15-24  mrknightly: <Teyss> You are a gentleman and a scholar for the explanation of the "pun." So, to translate into more understandable terms, it says: Help! Red Cross!

offramp: I think some of you've been barking up the wrong tree.

Eric Sos Andreu, as in St Andrew. A St Andrew cross would be on the diagonals here. That is what User: stone free or die is talking about. 38. Re4.
