 | | Korora: Hmm... Black trying for a perpetual? |
Jan-25-25 | | vonKrolock: 37.Rxd5 threatening Rxh5, then ... there's a pair of checks in b1, then in c2 or a2 then I'm not seeing.a defense against Rxh5 check |
Jan-25-25
 | | Korora: <...c2 or a2...> Well, the technically-passed ♙ on a2 is less of a worry for Black right now. |
Jan-25-25 | | vonKrolock: 38... f6-f5 : ok no mate for the while |
Jan-25-25 | | Atking: Black could resign here. |
Jan-25-25 | | vonKrolock: <Korora> time control reached ... I bet white will avoid perpetual and win easily |
Jan-25-25
 | | OhioChessFan: I doubt Black plays his 41 st move. |
Jan-25-25 | | vonKrolock: <Atking> ditto |
Jan-25-25
 | | Korora: Well, either the champ is really deliberating hard over move 41, or else the feed's got issues again. |

 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: My just punishment for oversleeping--missing most of an interesting game featuring the WC, starting with his choice of the Advance Variation, perhaps because of recent experiences in the WC match. |
Jan-25-25
 | | OhioChessFan: Feed appears fine. Kf2 moved. |
Jan-25-25
 | | Korora: Well, there's my answer. |
Jan-25-25
 | | OhioChessFan: I stand corrected. Regardless, easy win for White. |
Jan-25-25
 | | ketchuplover: Qb8+ Kh4????? |
Jan-25-25 | | vonKrolock: <OCF> yes, the check in b8 could be the last one ... |
Jan-25-25
 | | Korora: And given that, unlike in Chess Review's fictionalized version of Botvinnik vs Capablanca, 1938 with the Devil as Capa's opponent, there are no life-or-death stakes warranting tricking the opponent into a touch-move blunder. |

Jan-25-25
 | | Korora: Might Harikrishna going over whether to continue the checks, or to topple the ♔--or perhaps examining some line that may or may not get him out of the mess? |
Jan-25-25 | | whiteshark: <45.Kg5> 1-0 |
Jan-25-25
 | | PawnSac: < Korora: Might Harikrishna going over whether to continue the checks, or to topple the ♔--or perhaps examining some line that may or may not get him out of the mess? > I don't know what he's doing, but as white I'd be heading my king toward h6! So a ..Nh5+ won't help him. After 47.Kg5 (breaking the pin) and threatening Kh6 what's black going to do? Harrass the Q maybe with Rf8? so Qe7 and if black trades down with Qxe7 Rxe7 he still hasn't improved the situation, white is penetrating and has an easily winning knight and pawn ending. black can't guard his, and white's outside passer trumps the knight. Black is dead lost |

 | | perfidious: As an old friend would put it, Gukesh's king strolled into the enemy breastworks with congressional impunity. |
Jan-25-25
 | | PawnSac: < perfidious: > lol well put! |
Jan-25-25 | | cehertan: Good to see gukesh retooling his French after the whupping Ding gave him. |
