A week ago, a new World Snooker Champion: <Zhao Xintong>🥮🥠🥢🥡🧧🇨🇳

And now, yesterday, a new yankee Pope!! <Leon the 55th>🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🦅 🦅‼️‼️✝️🕊️👴🏻🙏🏻✟.

Let's see how Gukesh get on today.

offramp: Gukesh should try really hard to win this tournament.

I can't remember Ding Liren winning <anything> while he was WC.

The hot favourite, for me, is <FIROUZJA> to win this tournament, and to become the next WC.

Open Defence: 20.Ng4 would have given White a big advantage according to the commentators
May-13-25  James J. Henderson: Both 20.Ng4 and the move played in the game, 20.Bxd4, are apparently winning. The problem seems to have occurred after Black's 20th move:

According to Stockfish, the move Gukesh played, 21.Bxe5, relinquishes White's advantage if Black finds the sole resource on moves 21 and 22, which Deac did. Stockfish believes that White should take on e5 with the pawn instead of the bishop, preferably after trading off a pair of rooks: 21.Rxc8 Bxc8 22.fxe5 Ng6 23.Qh5.

This position, the engine says, is winning for White, although I would be hard pressed to explain why exactly.

May-14-25  James J. Henderson: One further wrinkle: it seems 53.Qd2 was a mistake, but White got a respite with 54...Bf7. If, instead, Black plays 54...Bc4,

White is losing; the threats of Qf1+ and Ng4 are overwhelming.
