May-09-25  Albanius: Good win by Caruana, who managed his clock better; exciting endgame! On move 56, Fabi would have reached a won position (-3 according to the engine here) with 56..Rd4, the move I thought obvious as I watched live. After 56..Nf5 as played the evaluation hovered around -0.5-0.6.

beatgiant: <Albanius> It was an actual tablebase draw from 61. Kxd4 until 64...g5, where <65. Rd3> was correct. The rook on the third rank would have prevented 67...g3 as in the game.
May-10-25  cehertan: I would have to try 68. Re8. Without checking an engine I must be missing something, but it seems clear that if that does not work nothing will.
May-10-25  cehertan: I guess black can cover the queening square with check and then play g2. Still seems the best hope.
May-10-25  cehertan: Beatgiant that is wild. But the gulf between theory and practice is wider than we ever imagined.
May-10-25  cehertan: This is a nice event, feels like the outcome is wide open.
May-10-25  Andrew Chapman: I was surprised that white didn't repeat moves with 72. Rf1+.
