FSR: <Faustino Oro, the Argentine prodigy with a fast growing reputation, has just achieved the youngest ever international master norm. Oro finished joint second in a 10-player round robin in Buenos Aires, scoring 6.5/9 for a performance rating of 2452. At nine years nine months, he broke the record set by Keymer in 2015 by six months. Oro now needs two more norms plus a 2400 rating for the IM title.

Earlier, Oro became the youngest ever 2200-rated player, at nine years three months, and the youngest 2300, at nine years six months. He learned the game at six, and his early progress was entirely self-taught through watching chess videos on the internet after his father created an account for him on chess.com "to stop him kicking footballs inside the house".> https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...

OhioChessFan: “What I can tell you about Faustino is that he is an incredible boy. Here he confirmed what he has been doing in each tournament and how much is expected of him. It makes me happy to see him play, how he uses every resource in every position, and that he also continues an upward streak in his career" - Diego Flores
Dec-19-23  EvanTheTerrible: According to ChessNumbers, before him the highest rating achieved by someone 10 years old or less was 2299 by Sindarov. Oro was 2356 when he was still 9 years old (if the birthday provided by chancho was correct).

He beat Levy Rozman (GothamChess) in a blitz/bullet match on the ChessKid Twitch channel today, so he's definitely good at blitz too.

I'm excited to see how he plays at the World Rapid & Blitz. I believe he is already registered to play.

Well, congratulations to this extremely talented young man. Yes, it's only a bullet game and one shouldn't read too much into it, of course, but a big feather in his cap nevertheless.

At least one good thing came out of the disastrous COVID lockdowns then.

Jun-18-24  BebeReno93: Besides his achivements related to his age, the playing style of Faustino is uncommon at his age considered that the positional skills re most remarkable that tactical ones in him, who like every Prodigy, re tactically exceptional. Independently if he achive the record or not, is an unique prospect that Will have a relevant rol on the future of Chess.

Sally Simpson: Earlier today a spokesman for FIDE stated that the World Junior Chess Championship has been cancelled. The reason being there is no longer any point because everyone expects that soon the adult World Final will most likely be contested between two 14 years olds.
