May-11-12  TheTamale: Happy birthday, Bill!

I've lampooned you enough about all the games featured on this site in which you've managed to beat duffers with variations of the Fool's Mate. But I will take this opportunity to thank you for all the interesting games and your contributions to the sport. I've even used a pamphlet of yours in a correspondence game!

wwall: Thanks AJ. He wasn't such a saint, diceman. Always wanted to take his bad move back. But we were young then and didn't have fancy analog chess clocks or electricity for those digital clocks. We played a lot of off-the-wall chess in those days by candlelight. We weren't too bright as Edward Winter likes to point out.

  Sally Simpson: Happy Birthday Bill.

A day late, I know, sorry.

(I recall you use to like my wife jokes on The Corner.)

I was also a day late at my wedding and ended up marrying some jilted bride who had been abandoned at the alter.

Outside the church I lifted her veil and people started booing.

She started crying, except in her case the tears where running up her face.

At the honeymoon hotel the bell boy took one look at her and gave me a tip!

Then you mix in the Chess.

She has the kind of face that could uncastle a King.

One eye has taken the other eye en passant.

When God was making up her face he forgot to say "j'adoube".

When she smiles it's like looking at a row of isolated pawns.

Geoff.

I love her really, she has started talking through nose. Her mouth has finally worn itself out.

wwall: Geoff, hope you survive Mother's Day after that. Once a pawn a time you were the best, except for your checkered past. Too much time at the Corner pub? Sounds like you found the perfect mate. Hope you didn't get rooked with your chosen Queen. Hope you had a great wedding knight, had some Scotch, and played with some defrocked Bishop. Hope you didn't up like Spassky and his first wife and were like bishops of opposite color.

  Sally Simpson: Hi Bill.

After 38 years my marriage is now a stalemate.

I'm on the look out for a new chess set, one that does creak when it moves or smell of linament.

------

Thinking of submitting a picture to go on my bit - I must send them more games, some of them are quite hilarious...one or two actually have sound sacrifices. Most are complete swindles.

What do think of this: Me in my garden playing chess.

What do you think, does that capture me?

HeMateMe: ^^Excellent story link, above, USA Presidents and chess. Just curious, why did you mention my name in this?
Jun-02-14  Granny O Doul: George Washington: wooden teeth, ivory chess men. There's a man with his priorities in order.

The version of the Lincoln vs. Judge story I'd read had the judge furious after the board upset; saying "now we'll never know whose game it was!", and Lincoln replying, "Well, let's just call it Tad's game". Of course, if either were a real player, they'd have been able to set up again even without a score.

With all these presidents who have played chess, how many game scores are extant? Seems like a hell of a cover-up is going on.
