[what is this?]

The doyen of the commentariat, Gerry McCarthy could usually be found holding court at the Domdaniel chessforum. There is evidence to support rumours that he has played more than the fifteen games of chess reported below.

  diceman: RIP Domdaniel
Jan-18-19  crawfb5: <Everyone: <Everyone> is shocked by unspeakable grief. 2019 can't get any worse, or can it?>

It can always get worse, but yes, this is a bad start. Gerry will be missed.

perfidious: <Dom> would indeed have had a laugh over an excellent editor having a gaffe.
Jan-18-19  ChessHigherCat: Seems impossible. It will take a while to sink in.

TheAlchemist: Very sad news, rest in peace, Dom.
Jan-18-19  catlover: Sorry to hear the news. RIP, Dom.

Parachessus: Good grief, this is incredibly sad and shocking. He was one of the wittiest and classiest posters here.

  perfidious: <Parachessus>, I'll sign that.
Jan-18-19  Cibator: I was always vaguely aware of the name Domdaniel, as with most of the other prolific posters on this site. But only now, having had my full attention drawn in this tragic fashion, have I come to realise what a truly superb writer he was. All done for free, too. Really sorry to see you go, Gerry - this is going to leave a gap in our ranks that could be a long time being filled, if at all.

HeMateMe: Always enjoyed his posts, dialogue. He seemed to know a lot of people in the arts.
Jan-18-19  shivasuri4: A fantastic member of the community, Domdaniel entertained us all with his quick wit. You will be missed, sir.
Jan-18-19  zanzibar: A bit of foreshadowing in his last <CG> post?

<Blank Reg: "They said there was no future - well, this is it.">

His last youtube link:

Good old Britannia.

And this post was one of his last posts, mentioning Daniel:

<<Susan F.> -- Thank you. I was starting to get upset that anyone could use this site and not know who Daniel was, and just how important his contribution was to pretty much everything. I still miss him every day ... not the way you do, but it's there nonetheless.>

Kibitzer's Café (kibitz #245791)

Like <Daniel>, it appears <Dom> will also be missed by many.

mckmac: Terrific photo of Gerry/Dom. Thanks for uploading it.
Jan-19-19  zanzibar: His Munster CC remembrance:

It uses a clipping from the first photo link I gave above. <CG> has a better version.

I'd like to see a photo of him from his college days.

Jan-19-19  SugarDom: He's just a good-natured guy. Never said a foul word to me.

Why didn't xxxxx in chessgames die instead?

HeMateMe: I remember when I was 20 years old in college. I was talking to this guy one day who said "No males in my family line have lived past the age of 60."

Hereditary heart disease? I'd never heard anyone say that since, until I noticed something here where Gerry didn't think he'd live to age 60. Strange.

morfishine: Well, Dear and Senior <Domdaniel> is no longer with us. I want to say that master <Dom> was one of the most humble persons I ever knew
Jan-21-19  JimNorCal: FYI

Jan-22-19  zanzibar: <PS. I saw a current pic of John Cooper Clarke yesterday. He's aged, the old boy. We don't look alike any more: just two different types of vaguely Dylanesque skinny old farts. Same thing happened with William Gibson and David Cronenberg: my ex-doppelgangers are diverging fast.>

Heck, nobody stays young forever. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Jan-22-19  zanzibar: RE: <William Gibson>

In this case, age may have actually improved his looks:

So this one is a before and after picture?:
