Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-05-04  WMD: Unrated and untitled, Lipnowski scalped GM Walter Browne way back in 1971 at the Canadian National Exhibition Tournament and annotated the game for BCM. As he tells it, Browne simply exited the playing hall and forfeited on time, rather than resign at the board. Oh nice!
Dec-11-12  jerseybob: To reinforce what WMD says, Lipnowski-Browne is a brilliant game, it's in the 1971 BCM and it gives a great depiction of the young GM at play.
Dec-11-12  Shams: <jerseybob> I couldn't find the PGN online; would you mind uploading it sometime?

perfidious: Found Lipnowski-Browne and will upload the game.

In my experiences with Browne, I've never had any reason to respect his antics and that charming little tale from Lipnowski is just another. He was a fine player, but a pain in the fundament.

This was the position when Browne (to move) behaved a la Bardeleben:

Dec-11-12  Maatalkko: Funny story. I find it rude enough when someone online disconnects instead of resigning.
Dec-11-12  Blunderdome: <perfidious> Browne behaved a la Browne. See Winter's account of Steinitz - von Bardeleben: http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/...

"In short, von Bardeleben left the hall without resigning and allowed his time to run out because of the disturbance caused by spectators applauding winners of games, and he informed Steinitz personally of this."

Dec-17-12  jerseybob: Shams: Unfortunately the only version of that game I have is in my beaten-up 1971 BCM Annual - and I do mean beaten-up. There was some sort of strike going on as they were putting out that year's issue, and the quality was crap(pardon my French), not the usual indestructibility for BCM Annuals.

perfidious: <jerseybob> Uploaded a copy of Lipnowski-Browne to CG last week, so no problem.

PS Have several BCM annuals from the late 1970s; as you say, very well done.
