Jul-13-13  Karpova: Prof. Ziolo won the 1st prize at the winter tournament of the 'Krakowski Klub szachistow'* with +14 =2 -0** ahead of Klemensiewicz and Kirszner. P. P. Saburov invited him to participate in the Main Tournament at St. Petersburg, 1909. Sadly, he had to decline as the <Landesschulrat> (i. e. a kind of school authority) of Galicia declined his request for vacation.

* maybe at the end of 1908 / beginning of 1909?

** it says that he won the 1st prize among 16 competitors <den ersten Preis unter 16 Teilnehmern> - which would include him in a total number of 16 participants, but why then did he play 16 games and not 15? Possibly he won by the score of +13 =2 -0

Feb-03-14  Karpova: <Heinrich Ziolo> of Jaroslau (today Jarosław, Poland) according to page 106 of the April 1911 'Wiener Schachzeitung'.
