He holds the title of Master FIDE , and his extensive sports career includes eight national titles in the years 1976, 1977, 1978, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998 and 2003 [from his wiki, other sources including the blog below state 7-8 national titles - 1975 and 1978 are unclear, but who cares he is a champ without a doubt]. He is also the only Salvadoran chess player to win two medals at the Olympics: a team gold medal at the Tripoli Counter-Olympiad [~ 'The Against Chess Olympiad'] in 1976 and an individual silver medal at the Novi Sad Olympiad in 1990.
