Aug-04-14  pinoymaster77: 2/2 so far WIM-Elects Janelle Mae Frayna and Jan Jodilyn Fronda, though yung isang point ni WIM Jan eh by default, baka di eto counted pag 9-game norm.

LABAN lang, ONE game at a time !!

Aug-04-14  pinoymaster77: NICE win WIM-Elect Jan Jodilyn Fronda for the win and saving the match for the PHI Womens Team vs 8th seed Poland, for the 2-2 tie!

As per chess pundits, this may very well be the best match result for a PHI Womens team in the Olympiad, SO FAR!

Ipinakita nyo ni WIM-Elect Frayna on why WGM norm earners so far. WIM Camacho also has that potential.

Aug-04-14  pinoymaster77: Just replayed the game, WIM Jodilyn played the sharp Dragon variation ba yun in the game, and here's the JoeyV / Philstar article :

Aug-06-14  pinoymaster77: This is the report after round 3, where WIM-Elect Fronda's heroics clinched the 2-2 tie with 8th seeded Poland !

http://sports.inquirer.net/160770/c...

Aug-12-14  ceedee: did WIM-Elect Jan Jodilyn Fronda clinched her 2nd WGM norm?

she already met the three criteria needed to achieve her WGM norm. 1.) she already faced an IM, and 3 WGM.
2.) her opponents' average ELO rating is 2107
3.) her performance rating is 2274 after 9-rounds. (her first opponent doesn't count due to walkover)

she got 6.5 points after playing 9 rounds.

Aug-12-14  joeyj: WGM norm minimum rqmt for Rp is 2400.

For 6.5/9 the ave rating for her 9-opponents (less R1 opponent i.e. win by default) must be 2234-2274.

Aug-14-14  resty: Congrats, Jodilyn!! It was a superb Olympiad performance, 7.5/11, top scorer of the Philippine Women's Team!

Women's team
Yes, we had perhaps the strongest women's team in an Olympiad but there was not enough time for them to be trained well. Their opponents are as strong as our local masters or even our IMs. These have been toughened by playing in strong men's open tournaments.

Despite the obvious talents of Janelle Mae Frayna, Jodilyn Fronda and Cheradee Camacho, there was no way the women's team could face them.

Camacho was below form. She misses tactical turns she can spot easily. She lost her touch in manuevering. She tried hard to keep the position equal but found herself slowly turned back. 3.5/10 is not her usual score.. There is no question Frayna is a huge talent but there is much to improve on her game as shown by her stronger opponents, who can outplay her, especially in the transition to the middlegame. 6/10 is a good indicator of what she can accomplish. it is not clear if she got a norm.

Frayna, 7.5/11, is a natural player. She easily finds the most practical move. But she must avoid what happened to her in the last round where she moved too quickly in a good position and allowed her opponent to recover. Bernales' 2/4 is a good performance. There is a lot of room for her to realize her talent but she must sharpen her preparation. It makes one's head shake to see not enough opening theory, especially in the Philidor's Defense she lost, and judgment of position. Her victory last round is typical of her sharp style, where she counter-attacked to defuse her opponent's brewing attack and prepared her decisive onslaught.
