TheFocus: I did this game collection from <Quarterly of Chess History>:Mexico City (1932)
I will have to give you the <QCH> description on Monday. I think he was just a local player. But I will not discount that it may have been Erich. <QCH> may have been mistaken. If so, then I will have to tip my hat to you once again!
After all, I did make an earlier mistake in that collection.
Here is the reprint of that from the Biographers Bistro:
TheFocus: <Phony> OK, here it is. When I began <Mexico City 1932>, the only games in the database were the Alekhine and Kashdan games. Kashdan was paired against <J. Vazquez> and Alekhine against <R. Vazquez>.
Which was right? Well, of course, I had my trusty <Quarterly for Chess History>. But, guess what it said? Uh... Captain J. Vazquez, the same as you pointed out.
W-w-w-wait a minute. What? How did I then input the wrong initial? None of the pairings are wrong. But for some reason, I stubbornly pursued the wrong path and kept putting in an R. instead of a J.
Another case of chess blindness.
I will make the corrections today.
Now you can see why I gave up tournament chess.
