12 year old Zelesco had an auspicious debut at the Queenstown Chess Classic (2012), scoring 6/9 (+6 -3). Since then he has placed =5th in the Melbourne Chess Club Championship, and also scored solidly in the Ballarat Begonia Open and the 2012 Doeberl Premier, adding a total of 45 Elo points to his resume. After a mediocre performance in the Noble Park Club Championship 2012, he came good by placing 2nd, half a point from the lead, with a strong 5.5/7 in the 2012 Victorian Open including a win over co-leader of this event IM James Morris. He scored a solid 5/11 at the 2012 Victorian Championship, adding 26 Elo points to his ratings for this result alone. He represented Canberra on board four at the World Cities Team Championship (2012) that were held in the UAE at the end of 2012, scoring 1/3, defeating Ioannis Stathopoulos and losing to GM Martyn Kravtsiv and GM Evgeni Ellinovich Sveshnikov.
