BOGDAN-DANIEL DEAC
(born Oct-08-2001, 22 years old) Romania

[what is this?]

FIDE Master (2014); International Master (2014); Grandmaster (2016).

Bogdan-Daniel Deac became the world's youngest International Master (2014) when he gained the title at the age of 12 years 10 months and 15 days. He then became the world's youngest Grandmaster when he gained the title in June 2016 at the age of 14 years 7 months and 27 days.

He acquired his FM title in 2014, probably upon reaching the mandatory rating qualification of 2300 in March 2014. He was awarded his first IM norm for his result at the Gibraltar Masters (2014), the second IM norm for his 7.5/11 at the Romanian Championship 2014 in May 2014 and his third IM norm for his result at the 29th Swarzach Open in Austria in August. As he had already achieved an official rating of 2400 in July 2014, his IM title took effect from 23 August 2014, at the 9th and final round of the Swarzacher Open when he clinched his final IM norm by drawing with GM Vitaly Kunin. (3)

Two years later, he gained his GM title when he won his third GM norm at the Zalakaros Open on 4 June 2016, having won his first two GM norms at the Zalakaros Open 2015 and at the Graz Open in February 2016. (4) He had all ready reached the 2500 rating mark the previous month. (5) Bogdan-Daniel scored 6.5/10 for his team's top board at the 2014 World youth team chess Olympiad.

In the summer he took part at the World Cup (2021) in Sochi, Russia, where he was eliminated in the fourth game, after tree draws by Grigoriy Oparin. At the FIDE Grand Swiss (2021) he was part of thirteen players tying 4th-16th with 7/11. He went undefeated in the event.
He took part at the European Team Championship (2021) where he managed 5/8 with wins against, Michael Adams, Ivan Saric, and Alexander Donchenko. His only loss was to Alexey Shirov.

Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-03-14  twinlark: Congratulations to the new youngest IM in the world, achieving his title over a month before his 13th birthday.
Jul-12-15  cro777: Deac is a member of the chess club from Râmnicu Vâlcea, the capital city of Vâlcea County, Romania.

He recently participated in the International Chess Festival "OPEN IASI" 2nd Edition, that took place from the 29th May to the 6th of June in Romania, scoring 5.5/9.

This is an instructive endgame from this tournament.

Jun-11-16  sonia91: He achieved his final GM norm at the Zalakaros Open, which ended a week ago: https://ratings.fide.com/title_appl...

Being born on Oct 8, 2001, this means that Deac achieved the GM title at 14 years, 7 months and 27 days; this should make him the youngest GM in the world currently, I think.

Congratulations!

Jan-26-17  Mr. V: Thus ends Romania's suspicious dearth of talent
Feb-02-17  virginmind: Deac made a good impression at Gibraltar Open 2017, with well fought draws against Svidler, Ivanchuk and Vitiugov. His only losses were against Adams and Topalov, finishing with 6.5/10 points.
