Feb-10-06  Jim Bartle: No Pun of the Day with Zueger? I remember years ago a US team was going to play the Swiss team, and they adopted the battle cry "Beat Zueger!"
Jul-12-08  Jason Frost: Shariyazdanov vs B Zueger, 1998
Jan-09-09  WhiteRook48: someone should make a game collection of "Players with funny names" or does that collection already exist?
Feb-21-09  WhiteRook48: no, I don't think it does
Mar-12-09  Whitehat1963: His names sounds like a cheer or a challenge.
Mar-17-09  dx9293: It looks like he made a GM norm at the European Championship with a TPR of exactly 2601! (6 points out of 11)
Mar-24-09  whiteshark: I think his name is a Swiss thing.
Mar-24-09  Dredge Rivers: We got the Beat! Yeah!
Jul-11-13  epistle: if you can!
Oct-08-13  Cemoblanca: Hi!
I'm looking for the game Zueger VS Landenbergue played in Chiasso 1991.

Here is the final position (and indeed a wonderful "puzzle" to solve):

After 1.Qxg3?? Black immediately mated the White Monarch with 1...Qh1. There was only one problem: White had very good chances to winning this. The winning line was really difficult to imagine and begins with 1.Rg7+! Well, I do not wish to give away too much at this point. ;) I will add only this: After a long roller coaster ride White would have laughed last. :)

By the way: Please could someone send me the "uncut" version of this game? Thanks in advance.

Regards...

FSR: It would be nice to see a game where a team of players beats Zueger. Then we could use this pun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f55...

Telemus: This morning I saw a death notice at Wikipedia.

I would like to share a short episode that happened at a tournament for young players in Krefeld ("Jungmeisterturnier" (?), 1982 or 1983).

When I arrived play had already begun and shortly thereafter, Beat Züger left the tournament and took a train home. It turned out that Beat had played a German player who went several times to the bathroom. Then Beat went to the bathroom too and found a hidden opening book. The arbiter asked the German player, but he said that the book is not his. So, the arbiter decided that the game should continue. But as told, Beat left. This impressed me very much.

RIP.

Jul-27-23  Eastfrisian: To young. RIP (nearly GM) Beat Zueger.
